What is Suicide & Self Injury

Those who suicide want to escape from unmanageable emotions and thoughts.  These thoughts and feelings can be fleeting or ongoing, but there is help available to assist people during difficult times.    They wish to stop unbearable emotional pain and they feel their situation is hopeless, they feel worthless and believe that other people would be better off without them.

Self-injury or harm can indicate different things. Someone who is self-harming may be at risk of suicide. Others engage in a pattern of self-injury over weeks, months or years and are not necessarily at the risk of suicide.
